Asterix the satellite
By mansuetus (Translasted by Beri) - Aug. 24, 2010

The first French satellite was called Asterix. It was launched on 11/26/65.

Details:

Unfortunately the antennas were damaged during the launching and the satellite could not send any signal back to Earth. US radars could follow the launching and confirmed that the French satellite was successfully put into orbit.
It was the first launching of a Diamant-A space rocket, its first success and the world first one-shot for an orbital space rocket.
