Minizil: modifie ton profil.

FOREWORD

You have probably noticed that we have recently completely revamped the English version of our site. For those who didn't know: this website is basically French, but we are working hard on making it accessible to our fellow English speaking users. This is hopefully an improvement and we hope you like it, but it is still not perfect. The translation is provided by two moderators for which English is not their mother tongue. This means we still might use the help of some English native speakers.

If you are willing to help us improve this site, here is what we might expect from you :

o Give us feedback about the existing translations and do not hesitate to contact us if you want to rewrite/correct something.
o The framework of the site is accessible in English, but we still miss the main part of what makes this website: its content! If you think you have enough skills to translate French DYKs, feel free to contact us!
o Contribute by submitting new and original DYKs which are not translations.

For more information about what to help us with and how to proceed, send us an e-mail at contact@spontex.org or leave a comment on any DYK you want to correct.

WHY ARE THERE SO FEW DYKs ON THIS WEBSITE ?

WHY ARE MOST OF THE SOURCES IN FRENCH ?

As of January 2009, there are approximatively 1000 Did-You-Know in French, most are nice, some are worse, but we spared you the very bad ones ;-) It took some years to reach this number and it takes a lot of time to come up with an idea, to write and submit a DYK, to moderate, discuss, find sources, correct, validate and publish it, and then again to translate it into English. We achieved to keep up a ratio of a dozen of new French DYKs a week. This is only possible thanks to the permanent contribution of a team of 15 to 20 moderators and “resident” users. Beside this, we are only a few who are able to translate into English, and it is absolutely impossible to make the effort of searching for sources in English for every DYK. Therefore, we expect our new (English speaking) users to join the community and help us improve this site like we did for the French version.

by two moderators for which English

for whom

Avatar of Lotharius
Lotharius - Jan. 28, 2010 - 00:01:04

Adjectives referring to nationality or ethnicity are not capitalized in French, even though nouns are: un navire canadien, a Canadian ship; un Canadien, a Canadian. Both nouns and adjectives are capitalized in English when referring to nationality or ethnicity.

Avatar of camtuf
camtuf - Jan. 28, 2010 - 01:21:44

“help someone to do something” est plus soutenu.

http://www.anglaisfacile.com/forum/lire.php?num=3&msg=30175&titre=structures+pour+%E9crire+un+essai

Le verbe “to help” se construit “to help someone to do something” ou “to help someone do something”?Merci d'avance pour vos réponses.

Bonjour,
on dit plutôt 'to help someone to do something'.

merci, mais est-ce que “to help someone to do something” reste valable?

Bonjour,
“to help someone to do something” est tout à fait correct
“to help someone do something” est de l'anglais familier
