In Centralia, Pennsylvania, a fire has been burning since 1962.
The fire started when a dump located in an abandoned strip mine pit was set on fire but not correctly extinguished. Amazingly, the fire front is still advancing 15 meters per year and is predicted to burn for at least 250 more years.
Similar cases can be found in China, where some coal mines have been burning for twenty years, and in Derweze (Turkmenistan) where a crater, with a diameter of 70 meters and full of natural gaz, is contineously burning since 1971.
