The french word Ordinateur (computer) mean “God who put order in the world.”
IBM France was searching a substitute to the english word “Computer” to design the new-born of the firm in 1954, the IBM 650, who was supposed to be seen as a real gestion tool. Note that at this time computer signifies Calculator, human, mecanic or electronic. The word Ordinateur was proposed by the professor of Sorbonne Jacques Perret who, based on the definition of the dictionary Le Littré, reminds that this word means “God who put order in the world.”. The base “Ordinat” was retreived in the word Ordination (Ceremony in wich one the bishop gives the sacred orders.)..God is everywhere!
